Privacy Policy

The Society for Photographic Education ("SPE") respects each individual's right to personal privacy. We will collect and use information through our website only in the ways disclosed in this statement. This statement applies solely to information collected at SPE's website.

Part I. Information Collection

SPE collects information through our website at several points and only when you specifically and knowingly provide such information voluntarily. We collect the following information about primary visitors: including, but not limited to, name, street address, telephone, facsimile or cell numbers, email address, gender, ethnicity, age, level of education, profession, job title and credit card information.

We may also collect names, street addresses, telephone, cell or facsimile numbers, and email addresses which our users provide about other people in connection with content suggestions and submissions, purchase of an item from SPE, either in person, by facsimile or other paper-based order, or when a resume or other employment-related information is submitted.

We collect this information through the following interactions, whether in person, by telephone, facsimile, letter, or on this website: when you register as a SPE member; during the SPE member registration renewal process; when you register for a conference; when you purchase an item; when you participate in SPE survey; when you submit content submissions and suggestions; and when you submit a resume or other employment-related information or data.

We collect the following general data that is not personally identifiable information automatically by standard operations of our Internet servers: these may include, but are not limited to, user IP addresses, browser types, domain names and other non-personal statistical data.

The SPE website does employ cookies. A cookie is a small text file that our web server places on a user's computer hard drive to be a unique identifier. If you do not want information collected from you through our website's cookies, consult your browser procedures for the function that allows you to deny or accept the cookie feature. Cookies enable SPE to track usage patterns and deliver customized content or advertising to its member-users. It also provides accessibility to certain features on our website. Out of respect for the privacy of our users we present the option to not receive some or all of these types of communications at the time we collect such information. In special cases, we may disclose personally identifiable information when we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action against you or someone else who may be abusing or damaging SPE's rights or property, or the conditions stated in its Privacy Policy or Terms and Condition of Use.

We may share data with the following third-parties: Outside Contractors (vendors, contractors, suppliers) and corporate and industry partners. Outside Contractors will use information only to perform specific functions as contracted by SPE, while abiding by the organization's privacy policy. For other third-party partners with whom we share our mailing list, SPE requires the protection of your privacy by making only limited use of our mailing list consistent with contractual agreements. Users may opt out to have their information shared with third parties by declaring their intent at the point of data collection and/or updating the preference in their member's account. Please be aware that any personally identifiable information you voluntarily disclose via email or other communication with third-parties can be collected, correlated and used and may result in unsolicited messages. SPE is not responsible for such collection, correlation, use and messages.

The SPE website offers galleries, forums, calendars and other public-related information and data. Please be advised that information posted in these venues becomes public knowledge.

This Privacy Policy is effective as of August 1, 2010. We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time. If our policy on information collection or uses changes, we will notify you by electronic mail or other means. Your continued use of SPE's services, including, but not limited to this website, following the posting of Privacy Policy changes means that you accept these changes. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, do not provide any personally identifying information to SPE in connection with your membership or any other of its services.

Part III. Access to Information

SPE maintains the accuracy of its information through timely record keeping and frequent updates of its membership database. Users may access, update or delete their own personal information on this website through their membership account. Please be advised that due to frequent back-ups of informational and database system, elimination of all information may not be possible. Part IV. Protection For Children - COPPA Compliance

We are committed to protecting the privacy and rights of children online. Our website is not designed or directed to children under the age of 13. We have made it our policy to not collect any individually identifiable information from users whom we know are under the age of 13. Part VI. Data Storage and Security

SPE protects member-user information by using industry-standard security measures, including Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology and secure servers with firewalls. Only employees or Outside Contractors who need access to your information to perform a specific function are granted access to your information. They must abide by the terms of this Privacy Policy or be subject to disciplinary action. However, SPE can not ensure or warrant the security or privacy of any information, including personally identifiable information, due to risks involved in transmitting information over the Internet. While SPE endeavors to protect your privacy and the security of its systems, you transmit information at your own risk.
