Message from the Chair

The Southwest and West Chapters are currently accepting calls for both presentation proposals and artwork to exhibit during their joint conference on October 18th and 19th at Weber State University in Ogden, UT.

Southwest Chapter: Updates

Join us to hear photo students and recent alumni present about their work, how they are exploring certain themes, and more about their practice. Each event will feature 3-5 invited presenters. We are looking for more schools and individuals in the West and Southwest regions who would like to participate.

Sept. 8th, Sacramento State recent alumni will present work with the theme of nostalgia. Elisa Fernandez, Will Kraintz, Frances Kenney, Megan Sinclair, Molly Berg, Ricardo Cazares, moderated by Andrew Dumitru. 

Oct. 3rd, California Baptist University students: Raymond Alva, Alicia Berardelli, Ashley Chruszcz, and David Fouts will present.

Congratulations to our 2026 Silver Gelatin Award recipient, Sant Khalsa!

Sant Khalsa is an artist, educator, curator and activist whose work develops from a mindful inquiry into complex environmental and societal issues. Her artworks are internationally exhibited, as well as collected by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Getty, Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, National Galleries of Scotland, Nevada Museum of Art, and UCR California Museum of Photography, among others. She was honored with the 2023-24 California Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship (Legacy Award) and inaugural SPE Insight Award in 2012. Her works are published in many books including two monographs, Sant Khalsa: Crystal Clear || Western Waters (Minor Matters, 2022) and Sant Khalsa: Prana - Life with Trees (Griffith Moon, 2019). She recently curated the Getty supported PST ART: Art & Science Collide exhibition Desert Forest: Life with Joshua Trees at MOAH Lancaster and co-edited the book of the same title. She is a Professor of Art, Emerita at California State University, San Bernardino, and lives in Joshua Tree.
