The 2025 Contingent Faculty Caucus Exhibition showcases the diverse photographic practices amongst the contingent faculty in the Society of Photographic Education. Contingent faculty often face uncertainty within their respective institutions, but our community aims to highlight their creative practices. This exhibition highlights the unique narratives each artist is exploring, from nature to alternative processes to identity. These themes are brought under the umbrella of academic labor, one that many of these stories would not otherwise be associated with. This challenges our traditional approaches to understanding contingent labor, while highlighting these creative practices. Thank you, SPE, for always recognizing the need for further equity and support in academia and the broader art world.
We want to thank Sherri Nienass Littlefield for jurying this exhibition. Sherri is a NYC based photography curator, dealer and professor interested in data, collaborative projects and using contemporary art toward social good. Projects curated by Littlefield have been featured at PULSE Art Fair, AIPAD, the Huffington Post, Affordable Art Fair, artnet, The Center For Book Arts, and Cambridge Art Association. As both a photographer and dealer, she's placed art in notable private and public collections internationally. Littlefield is currently on faculty at the Fashion Institute of Technology where she lectures on social media, photography and professional practices. In addition to her many projects, Sherri is a Community Coordinator for Nordstrom's New York City region, where she curates rotating contemporary art exhibitions, creates social media content and manages community events.
