The Hand Magazine is a publication dedicated to the celebration and promotion of hand- applied photographic and printmaking processes in reproduction-based art. Any artwork that incorporates one or more photographic or printmaking techniques is accepted- including digital.

The Hand prides itself on giving young and emerging artists an opportunity to publish work alongside more established and well-know artists.

Location

The Hand is distributed internationally, but is based in Prairie Village, KS, USA.

Fees

$15 US, $20 Canada/ Mexico, #25 Outside N. America

Eligibility

All artists, regardless of age or career level are eligible.

Requirements

Payment of submission fee, completion of submission form, and submission of up to 5 images per submission fee. All file specifications and submission form sections must be completed and terms agreed to. There is no limit on the number of separate submissions an artist can make.

No special awards.

Considerations

Please pay attention to file size specification and other directions and information on submission form. The Hand is printed in limited editions of 250- 500 depending on demand. Only after the printed edition is sold out, the issue will become available via digital download on The Hand Magazine website.

Evaluation Criteria

The Hand is looking for artists using reproduction-based techniques, i.e. photography and printmaking, in unique and innovative ways. Selection is based on the technical quality of the image, the uniqueness and innovation of the processes used, the clarity of the submitted image, and the engaging or interesting quality of the subject matter. The Hand leans towards images that are poetic, dreamlike, ephemeral, narrative, and strange.
