SURREALISM: A PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

Surrealism seeks to push beyond accepted conventions of reality by representing in photography the irrational imagery of dreams and the unconscious mind... disorienting realist imagery often based on fantasy, nightmares, hallucination, and figments of the imagination. The disassociated nature of work can lead to some stunning compositions, but requires the artist to see beyond what's physically there to create the pictures of the imagination.

Artists are invited to submit original, two-dimensional photographic images. The final and accepted artwork may not be larger than 20” x 30”, including framing and matting. Frameless, professionally mounted images are acceptable, such as images on acrylic, aluminum, and canvas. No unframed foam core mounted prints will be admitted. Requirements

Accepted Artist Requirements:

When art sells, each artist is asked to make a 20% tax-deductible donation to Del Ray Artisans.
Del Ray Artisans, Union 206 Studio, and the City of Alexandria cannot be held liable for any loss or damage to artwork at any time. Insurance for artwork is the sole responsibility of the artist.
Permission to reproduce any artwork for Del Ray Artisans and Union 206 Studio publicity and archival purposes is automatically granted by the artist as a requisite for entering the show. Anyone not agreeing must contact the Curating Director at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
All art entered must be original. Contact the curator for more information.
Art previously displayed at Del Ray Gallery is not eligible.

Considerations

Entry Detail Highlights:

Open to all professional and amateur artists.
Artists may submit up to six (6) entries for this exhibition. A series of photos intended to be sold as a single set counts as one entry.
The entry fee is $5 per piece for members of Union 206 Studio and Del Ray Artisans. There is no charge for full-time students (proof of full-time status required). All others will be charged $10 per entry.
Entry fees are due upon submission and are nonrefundable. Pay with cash, check, or credit card at the gallery or by credit card online at: mkt.com/del-ray-artisans/surrealism-entry-fee
You must provide one image for each entry. Acceptable file types are pdf, jpg, jpeg, png, and gif; file sizes up to 5mg can be accepted. Smart phone photos are acceptable. You may also provide an additional photograph per entry if you wish (not required). You must name your files as follows: "YourLastName-FirstName-Entry1", "YourLastName-FirstName-Entry2", etc. If you provide a series of images intended to be sold as a single set of photographs, provide one image that combines the photos into a single file.
Final acceptance for this exhibit is at the curator’s discretion upon physically viewing artwork at drop off.
All artwork must be for sale. Any pieces marked "NFS" will not be accepted.

Important dates:

Deadline for digital submissions and entry fee: Saturday, March 19, 2016
Artists will be notified of artwork acceptance by: Sunday, April 3
Artwork receiving for accepted exhibit artwork is: Sunday, May 1 and Monday, May 2 from 6-8pm at Del Ray Artisans Gallery, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301.
Opening reception will be Friday, May 6 from 7-9pm . "Best in Show" artwork will be recognized by the Curator.
Unsold artwork pickup is on Sunday, May 29, 2016 from 6-8pm. Any art left over 30 days after the close of the show will become the property of Del Ray Artisans.
