Download in PDF Format

JUROR | ANN JASTRAB

THEME | UNDER THE SUN

DEADLINE | JULY 14 - postmarked mail

The Curated Fridge is happy to announce that the Summer 2018 Show will be part of First Fridays at Copia! Presented by The Culinary Institute of America, Copia is the ultimate Napa Valley destination for experiencing the world of food, wine, art, and community, while combining everything people love about the CIA – culinary expertise, gracious hospitality, and unforgettable flavors!
First Fridays at Copia is a monthly series celebrating the arts that welcomes everyone each month to a lively reception with special exhibitions featuring art, photography, music, film, and more. And, as with any CIA event, delicious food and beverages are served throughout!

In more exciting news, the curator of the Summer 2018 Show is Ann Jastrab!
Ann is an independent curator, photography consultant, editor, and writer. She writes extensively about photographers and photography for the acclaimed website All-About-Photo where she is the Editor-in-Chief. She worked as the gallery director at RayKo Photo Center in San Francisco for the past decade until their recent closure in June 2017. Ann has curated many exhibitions for RayKo while simultaneously jurying, curating, and organizing numerous exhibitions for other national and international venues outside of San Francisco. She has reviewed portfolios for a multitude of organizations including the Seoul International Photography Festival in Korea, Fotofest, Photolucida, GuatePhoto, Review Santa Fe, Medium, Palm Springs Photo Festival, Filter, and Lishui International Photography Festival in China as well as being a juror for Critical Mass.
Besides being a curator, Ann Jastrab, MFA, is a fine art photographer, master darkroom printer, and teacher as well. She has been leading courses in the San Francisco Bay Area and at the Maine Media Workshops since 1995. Ann is currently working at Scott Nichols Gallery in San Francisco.

Theme: "Under the Sun"
Ann Jastrab is also a voracious reader and a former modern British literature major who loves Dylan Thomas. An excerpt of "Fern Hill" follows, to inspire everyone who wants to submit.

…"All the sun long it was running, it was lovely, the hay
Fields high as the house, the tunes from the chimneys, it was air
And playing, lovely and watery
And fire green as grass.
And nightly under the simple stars
As I rode to sleep the owls were bearing the farm away,
All the moon long I heard, blessed among stables, the nightjars
Flying with the ricks, and the horses
Flashing into the dark.

And then to awake, and the farm, like the wanderer white
With the dew, come back, the cock on his shoulder: it was all
Shining, it was Adam and maiden,
The sky gathered again
And the sun grew round that very day.
So it must have been after the birth of the simple light
In the first, spinning place, the spellbound horses walking warm
Out of the whinnying green stable
On to the fields of praise."…
