Sigma 60th Anniversary Scholarship Contest

This contest is offered by Sigma America giving away a total of $60,000 to students who are planning to attend or who are attending an accredited college or university, or a certificate program, for film or photography. Sigma will be celebrating its 60th anniversary around the world this year, and provides this Contest to celebrate this momentous occasion and provide student photographers and filmmakers with a scholarship towards their education. The Contest is meant to be a tribute to Sigma's founder and chairman, Michihiro Yamaki, and principles on which Sigma was founded. The Contest also honors the founder's son and current CEO, Kazuto Yamaki, for carrying on the tradition of Sigma and adhering to the principles, and additionally infusing creative innovation. Entrants are invited to create and submit images and films based on the creative prompts that are the core principles of Sigma The four core principles upon which the contestants will be asked to draw their creative inspiration are: Authenticity, Precision, Inspiration, and Honor. All entries must be captured with SIGMA lenses and/or cameras for prize consideration. Entries will open on October 1, 2021 and close on January 15, 2021

Eligibility

The Contest is open only in the United States, to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (including D.C.) who are 18 years of age or older at time of entry. Persons in any of the following categories are not eligible: individuals affiliated with the Sigma Corporation of America, Sigma Japan and/or any other Sigma subsidiary or distributor, including employees and their immediate families (children, parents, siblings, and spouses) and others living in their households. Sigma America will determine winners' eligibility in its sole discretion.

Requirements

MAY NOT BE TAKEN ON MOBILE PHONES. SUBMISSIONS MUST BE TAKEN WITH SIGMA PHOTO AND/OR CINE LENSES FOR PRIZE CONSIDERATION. Submit your image or film, a scanned image of your Student ID along with a written explanation of how your submission connects or expresses the core principle chosen (around 500 words, maximum) (collectively, the "Entry"). You must also post your image or film on social media, and include the hashtag #SIGMA60THSCHOLARSHIP in your post; you must also tag Sigma, @sigmaphoto or @sigmacine on Instagram, @Sigma_Photo, @sigmacinelens for Twitter, Sigma CorporationofAmerica or SigmaCineUS on Facebook and sigmaphoto on YouTube . Proof of student status as well as being enrolled in a photo or film program required.

Awards

A total of $60,000 will be awarded to student photographers and filmmakers in four categories, each aligned with the core principles of the company. Eight prizes will be awarded, a cash award of $7,500 for each category and one each of the film and photo entries. Two prizes in each category will be awarded, one for a photo and one for a film.Total value of all prizes: $60,000. LIMIT ONE PRIZE PER PERSON.

Evaluation Criteria

All eligible entries will be judged on the criteria of creativity, originality, and best depicts the core principle.
