Call for Entry
Foundry Art Centre / Deadline: 12/31/18
Portraiture has played a major role in the history of mankind. Leaders and saints from Sumerian times to modern times have their likeness immortalized in art. Since the emergence of photography, the role of portraiture has changed. The ability to capture one's likeness for future generations is now something taken for granted and not limited to those able to pay an artist. This begs the question, "What is a modern portrait?"
"Figurative Works II" is an all-media exhibition seeking to answer this question. We are asking artists to capture the people and culture of our time. While this may be accomplished in the traditional portrait manner, we recognize the figure can often be represented utilizing abstraction. Sometimes the whole figure or multiple figures makes up a portrait. This exhibition will display artistic approaches as diverse and unique as the souls they are used to represent. Entries must be submitted by December 31, 2018.
The exhibition will open with a reception on Friday, February 22, 2019, from 5:30-8 pm in the main gallery. "Figurative Works II" will be on display from February 22, 2019 - April 5, 2019. Three prizes will be awarded at the Opening Reception: two Juror's Choice Awards of $200, and a Going Solo Award that offers the awarded artist the choice between a Going Solo Exhibition and $500.
Italian figurative artist Alex Folla will serve as juror for this exhibition. For more information about Folla and the exhibition, visit http://www.foundryartcentre.org/figurative-works-ii/.
