International Photography Exhibition
Midwest Center for Photography / Deadline: 08/01/23
Fantasy in Reality will celebrate the art of cosplay photography and the vibrant culture that surrounds it. Through the lenses of talented photographers, this exhibition will capture the creativity and passion that go into the crafting and portrayal of characters from fan favorite comics, movies, TV shows, video games, music and literature from various genres.
This exhibition will explore not just the images of the creations of these talented artists, but also offers a peek "behind the mask," so to speak. Whether it's cosplayers in mid-creation of their costume or displaying their finished work in cons, meet-ups, and gatherings, showcasing them in their element. Each photograph will display the incredible attention to detail and craftmanship that cosplayers bring to their costumes and performances.
Beyond the visual spectacle, cosplay is a community of passionate fans who come together to share their love of a particular fandom. This exhibition seeks to celebrate these fans, as well as their ingenuity, creativity, and artistry. The sense of belonging in these communitites that thrive with creativity and self-expression is a unique venture, and it is this curator's hope that the featured photographs will effectively relay this experience.
We hope that Fantasy in Reality will encourage viewers to embrace their inner fandom and discover a new appreciation for the creativity that goes into the act of cosplay. Whether you are a long-time fan or new to the world of cosplay, this upcoming exhibition is sure to delight and inspire.
Selected artists will have their work featured in the exhibition and online.
