Digital Silver Imaging (DSI) Portfolio Awards

The Digital Silver Imaging (DSI) Portfolio Awards were created to provide a select graduate with a professional quality printed portfolio of custom silver gelatin black & white and/or museum quality color inkjet prints. Honorable mention awards of custom printing will also be given. This juried award is Digital Silver Imaging's effort to assist emerging fine art photographers establish their career.

The DSI Portfolio Award will recognize three recent graduates in the field of photography. The winner will receive $2500 in retail value of printing and finishing services from Digital Silver Imaging. Two honorable mentions will receive $500 in retail value of printing and finishing services from Digital Silver Imaging.

Fees

$15 for 5 images

Eligibility

Entrants must have graduated from an accredited college or university within the past 5 years. A copy of your transcript, or a copy of the applicants diploma is required with entry. DSI invites photographers working in all mediums.

Awards

$2500 in printing services, retail value, from Digital Silver Imaging, two $500 honorable mentions in printing services, retail value. Award has no cash value, and cannot be redeemed for cash. This award is not transferable, and is for the use of the recipient only.

Evaluation Criteria

JURORS:
Rebecca Senf is the Norton Family Curator for the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson and the Phoenix Art Museum. Dr. Senf curated a major exhibition in 2010, Ansel Adams: Discoveries, at the Phoenix Art Museum inspired in part by her doctoral research. An advocate and collaborator, she created and has guided, INFOCUS, a support organization to promote photography at Phoenix Art Museum for the past 6 years. Senf is also an author, her essay in Reconstructing the View: The Grand Canyon Photographs of Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe was published by University of California Press in 2012.

Laura Ruth Bidwell is a photographer, graphic designer, and collector of contemporary photography. In 2011, Laura and her husband, Fred Bidwell, established the Bidwell Foundation to foster creativity and innovation through the arts. Their mission is to discover, nurture, collect and invest in new and mid-career artists who challenge and expand popular conceptions of photography. In 2013 they opened the Transformer Station in partnership with the Cleveland Art Museum to serve as a laboratory, think tank, educational center and exhibition venue with a focus on photography. The Bidwell's and the Cleveland Art Museum curate independently with each responsible for exhibiting 6 months of the year.

J. Sybylla Smith is an independent curator, educator and consultant. As the Director/Curator of the Griffin Museum of Photography at Digital Silver Imaging Gallery she curated 20 fine art photography exhibitions featuring over 70 international photographers. Smith has published over 100 advertising campaigns and fashion editorials, and been a Contributing Editor for Niche Media, Art Director for LL Bean and Creative Director for the Mandarin Oriental. She teaches graduate level curriculum on Creativity and Concept Development and is a Graduate Thesis Advisor at the School of Visual Arts.
