COUNTERFORM: A Call for Works About Reactions—the Aftermath of Change

Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center   /   Deadline: 08/01/26

Download in PDF Format

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works about the shape, size, and proportion of our responses: to culture, to form, to action, to an extended hand, to conversation, to intentions. Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media.

Things happen. Good and bad, large and small, events occur and demand something of us. Our responses to what happens shape the major arcs of our lives.
A counterform is a shape defined by what surrounds it—the space that exists only because something else acted first. COUNTERFORM is a call for work about reactions: the response to feedback on a first draft, the knee-jerk flinch when a nerve is struck, the form a thing takes because of what pressed against it.

$45 for up to three entries submitted. $5 per each additional entry.

Includes honorarium of $50 for each exhibiting artist and Grand Jury Award of $1,000 for one jury-selected work from among the exhibits on view.
