Anthology of Appalachian Photographers

Sapling Grove Press   /   Deadline: 11/15/14

Sapling Grove Press invites photographers living in the southern Appalachian region of the United States to submit photographs for possible publication in a book. This will be an anthology intended to showcase current, innovative photographs being produced in this 21st Century by photographers and artist/photographers residing in and around the southern Appalachian Mountains. Entries are invited from photographers living in the region loosely defined as "Appalachia," including cities, towns, rural areas, and mountainous areas of: SE Ohio, western Pennsylvania, all of West Virginia, western Maryland, western and SW Virginia, eastern Tennessee, western North Carolina, the NW corner of South Carolina, northern Georgia, and NE Alabama.

Fees

$20

Eligibility

For a complete Prospectus, see the Sapling Grove Press web site: http://www.saplinggrovepress.com/photography-competition/.

Requirements

We are seeking original, innovative, and authentic photographic work from any photographers living in the areas defined above, made from the year 2001 to the present. Photographers may submit 5 of their own photographs for consideration for publication. Photographs previously published at any other time are not eligible (but images from your own website or posted on social media are OK to enter). We are seeking work from Appalachian photographers which may or may not be readily identifiable as "Appalachian." Your subject matter does not necessarily need to be set in the geographic region of Appalachia. We encourage individual and non-traditional approaches, methods, subjects, insights, and motivations. All types of photographic mediums are welcome, including, but not limited to: digital work, film work, color, B&W, cyanotypes, tin types, or other alternative photographic methods. Heavily "photoshopped" images or photographs which appear to render their subjects in obviously unrealistic ways are discouraged, but may be entered.
