Allegany National Photographic Competition and Exhibition

The Allegany Arts Council is adding a new photography show to its slate of competitions and exhibitions. The new Allegany National Photographic Competition and Exhibition will be held in the Saville and Schwab Mountain Maryland Galleries in downtown Cumberland through the entire month of April 2015.

This inaugural event will meld the region's rich concentration of photographic artists with an influx of national photographers in a juried competition for over $2000 in cash prizes. In addition, the community will have the opportunity to participate in several photo-thematic events during the month-long exhibition. Prizes will be awarded at a public reception on Saturday, April 17th from 5-7PM.

Fees

$20 for 2 entries, $10 each additional

Eligibility

18 years and older.

Categories: Color, Black and White, and Effects
Max 48" in width, professionally presented and wired for hanging.

Requirements

Only entries through the CaF online entry system will be accepted. Each contestant much register for free at the following site: https://www.callforentry.org/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=2465&sortby=fair_name&apply=yes.

Up to 6 entries per photographer, up to 2 entries per category.

Photographer must include their "Artist Statement" (accepted photographers will have their statement displayed on wall in Schwab Gallery).

Awards

Best of Show - $600
Black & White FIRST PLACE - $300
Color FIRST PLACE - $300
Effects FIRST PLACE - $300

Second place prizes of $150 will also be awarded for each category, along with a People's Choice award for $100.

Evaluation Criteria

The juror is Kenneth Garrett, a photographer who has been shooting for National Geographic Magazine for three decades. Garrett's work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution, the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology, and in Egypt, Cuba, and Japan. It has also been published in Smithsonian, Air and Space, Archaeology, Fortune, Forbes, Time, Life, Audubon, GEO, National Wildlife, and Natural History. His corporate clients include IBM, the Marriott Corporation, UNC Aviation, and Starbucks Coffee.

Aside from judging, Garrett will be the featured guest at a fundraising dinner to be held after the reception on Friday night. He will also conduct a critique session on Saturday morning. Stay tuned for More information on these events will be posted soon.
