Open Call for Entries

Museum of Flight   /   Deadline: 05/28/15

The Museum of Flight is once again accepting submissions for its annual Spirit of Flight juried photography exhibition. Exhibit participation is open to all photographers, and photographs need only reflect the photographer's interpretation of the "Spirit of Flight". A jury of museum staff and volunteers will select a number of photographs to go on display in the Museum's Great Gallery. The show will open September 12, 2015.

The Museum will also select three prize-winning images from the show to feature in the Museum magazine, Aloft. Each of the prize-winning photographers will also receive a one year membership to the Museum.

Location

Entries are open to all photographers internationally, but the exhibition is in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Fees

$25

Eligibility

All photographers are invited to submit entries for this juried exhibition. Only the photographer creator may submit. Publishers, galleries, agents and collectors may not submit photos on behalf of photographers. If the photo is not currently in the photographer's possession, it will be the photographer's responsibility to ensure its availability and arrange for shipping of the work in time to meet deadlines.

The theme of the exhibition is "The Spirit of Flight"and photographs depicting any subject within the theme are eligible. Photographs not suitable for viewing by the general public or a family audience are not eligible. Photographs chosen for the exhibition must be professional prints, ready to hang. All photos must be framed using black metal frames, and either un-matted, or using a white or off-white matte. Photographers can find relatively inexpensive ways to frame their photographs. If you need advice with respect to framing, please contact us through the email address below. The minimum height and/or width is 8" (eight inches) and the maximum height and/or width is 24" (twenty-four inches), overall visible print area. Printed photographs should be reproduced at a resolution of 300 dpi at size or better. Accepted photographs that do not reflect the quality indicated in the submittal may be disqualified by the Museum at the time of hanging.

Awards

In addition to inclusion in the exhibition there will be three awards: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Each of the winners will be featured on the Museum's website. The 1st place winning photograph will be featured on The Museum of Flight's website and Aloft magazine, and the photographer will receive a one-year family membership to the Museum. The 2nd place winner will be featured in Aloft magazine and receive a one-year family membership. The third place winner will also be featured in Aloft magazine and receive a one-year single membership.

Considerations

As this call is for authentic photographs of the real world, please do not digitally enhance or alter your photographs beyond the basic corrections to achieve realistic color/grayscale balance, contrast and sharpness.

Evaluation Criteria

All eligible entries will be judged and selected by a jury of Museum volunteers and staff.
