"THIS EARTHEN DOOR: EMILY DICKINSON'S HERBARIUM," co-authored by Leah Sobsey and Amanda Marchand and published by Datz Press (2024), is a photographic re-working of poet Emily Dickinson's herbarium, a forgotten book of pressed plants that lives at the intersection of science, poetry, and art. In a gesture honoring her nearly 200-year-old effort, the artists grew and harvested plants to remake her sampler with the historical, photographic, plant-based anthotype process. This eco-feminist collaboration examines our changing environment while highlighting the importance of archives and plants, the scientific/artistic contributions of women, and the possibilities of working sustainably in photography.
