American Soil: Ten Japanese American Concentration Camps

Renee Billingslea

Saturday, March 08 - 2:30PM to 3:30PM
Tuscany 9

People recognize Manzanar, where Japanese Americans were unjustly imprisoned during World War II, because of the photographs by Dorothea Lange and Ansel Adams. The other nine camp locations are less known, leaving an incomplete story in American history.

For this presentation, I will share my four-year journey of visiting all locations to create a photographic exhibit, and my focus on the cultivation and use of the soil and land by Japanese Americans, but not for their own prosperity.

photographic project "Ten Japanese Concentration Camps" and my experience as a photographer who know falls into the lineage of these photographers.
