Position Overview
The University of the South seeks a dynamic and innovative artist-educator for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Department of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies with specialization in Photography and Video. This position offers an exciting opportunity to teach and mentor students in a collaborative, close-knit liberal arts environment that values both artistic excellence and pedagogical innovation.

Position Description
This position carries a 3/3 teaching load. Courses will include Introduction to Lens and Time-Based Media, 200/300 level courses in both Photography and Video, and Special Topics courses in Photography or Video.
The successful candidate will teach photography and video arts courses to majors and non-majors while supporting the department's mission to foster creative exploration, critical thinking, discourse, and technical proficiency in the visual arts. The position will also engage with art majors across the department, working in drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, and video by participating in student critiques, exhibitions, presentations, and mentoring students in their artistic development and career planning.
Attributes of a Successful Candidate
Candidates should have an active professional art practice, a strong exhibition record, and teaching expertise in photography and video.
Education:
Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Photography, Video Art, New Media, or a closely related field
Experience:
Teaching experience at the graduate teaching assistant level (instructor of record) or beyond
Evidence of a strong professional record of creative research
Demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction and student engagement
Experience with both digital and analog photographic processes
Proficiency in video production, editing, and post-production software
Technical Skills:
Advanced knowledge of digital photography workflows and software (Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Lightroom)
Proficiency in video production equipment and editing software (Premiere Pro, or equivalent)
Experience with digital imaging, color management, and printing processes
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of contemporary art theory and criticism
Dedication to providing strong foundational-level skills in photo and video to undergraduate populations, both majors and non-majors
Fluency in additional digital media technologies

Creative Portfolio (PDF format) showcasing recent work in photography and/or video (15-20 pieces, including details of images. Include descriptions of work with titles, dates, media, and sizes.)
Artist Statement describing current creative practice and research interests
Names of Three People willing to write Letters of Recommendation by people familiar with teaching and creative work
Optional Materials:
Links to online portfolios or professional websites
Examples of curriculum development or innovative teaching practices
