Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Department of Visual Art & Design at Weber State University invites applications for a Photography Lab Manager / Printmaking Studio Assistant to oversee the department's digital and film-based photographic facilities and assist in the printmaking studio. This full-time staff position (10 month per year contract) will be responsible for equipment and facility upkeep, maintenance and readiness in those areas, and will teach one department course per semester.

Job duties include:

• Maintaining a full analog photographic lab and studio, including group and individual film processing areas, three each large community darkrooms and individual darkrooms, chemistry mixing, equipment maintenance and clean-up.
• Maintaining a comprehensive digital output lab and a separate classroom space that together include a total of 7-8 large format Epson printers, Imacon film scanners, Apple computers, and Adobe Creative Suite software.
• Equipment care, maintenance and inventory of student / faculty checkout area which includes photographic, video, lighting and other equipment.
• Supporting and maintaining teaching-ready printmaking lab and core processes including but not limited to, relief, etching, serigraphy, lithography and book arts.
• Teach one class per semester as assigned.
• Support students outside of course meeting times in use of equipment and processes.
• Supervise work-study students and lab monitor student volunteers

• Two years of related experience that includes the maintenance of studio equipment in photography or printmaking OR MFA in Photography, Printmaking or related art discipline

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading., Required to have close visual acuity to inspect small defects, small parts at distances close to the eye., Required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as: operating machines, (i.e. lathes, drill presses, power saws) where the job is at or within arm's reach; skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature, such as carpenter, plumber, mechanic. , Required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services,) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection).
