The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track faculty position in the Visual Communications (VIS) department to begin August 21, 2023. The successful candidate will primarily teach photo and video storytelling for students studying photography, video and graphic design, as well as Newhouse first year undergrads in the foundational Multimedia Storytelling course.
The faculty member will teach five classes in an academic year (2/3 load) and will help set the direction of our documentary / photojournalism / editorial still and video program for both our civilian and military populations. Though the primary responsibility is to teach photographic and video storytelling courses, the ideal candidate will also demonstrate teaching versatility in at least one additional subject matter related to visual communication, such as:
· Still or video editing
· Visual management
· Social media
· Emerging media
· Virtual and augmented reality
The successful candidate must be willing to lead department workshops, such as our Fall Workshop, student groups, such as the NPPA student chapter, and join efforts to create international experiences.
The candidate should demonstrate an ability to connect evolving technology to the enhancement of story experiences for users and viewers of media. Being a problem solver and a good team player is a must, as the strength of the school lies in the interconnection of faculty skills and research/creative agendas—from traditional thinking to digital asset management, to visual discovery — and the collaborations created throughout all areas of the school.

Candidates must demonstrate the potential to bring national visibility to the school through academic scholarship or creative activity. Tenure-track hires are expected to pursue such activities that will position them as a well-known expert in their field. The school expects a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; school and university committee service; and community engagement.
For full description and application instructions, go to https://www.sujobopps.com/postings/95947. The position has a priority deadline of November 11 for full consideration.

Syracuse University is an equal-opportunity, affirmative-action institution.
