Venice Arts is a 30-year-old, non-profit media arts education organization whose mission is to ignite, expand, and transform the lives of Los Angeles' low-income youth through photography and film education, and to use its participatory storytelling practices to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities. Programs include:
1. Media Arts Mentoring & Education Program (AMP)
2. The Center for Creative Workforce Equity
3. Exhibitions & Public Programs
4. Consultation & Training Services
Working under the supervision of the Director of Education, and with the broad guidance of the Executive Director, this position manages all facets of the AMP program and, in the first year, teaches one Advanced Studies class (photography preferred) to assure a keen understanding of the youth population and Venice Arts' pedagogy. This position also has the following roles and responsibilities:
Curriculum Development
• Plan academic year and Media Arts Camp classes aligned with Venice Arts' sequenced curriculum
• Work with the Arts Education Coach to update syllabi templates to assure they remain relevant, exciting, and age- and learning-level-appropriate
• Review/approve Teaching Artists' modifications to submitted syllabi templates
Teaching Artist Staff and Support
• Develop and manage strategies for new Teaching Artist Recruitment
• Collaboratively deliver training in Venice Arts' pedagogy
• Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback on lessons to Teaching Artists
Exhibitions of Youth Work
• Manage the culminating exhibition and film screening
• Manage external opportunities to exhibit or show youth work
• Manage youth participation in Venice Arts' activities or events (e.g., annual Gala)
Awards, Competitions, and Film Festivals
• Assure the maintenance of the awards, competitions, and film festival calendars
• Work with educators to identify strong candidates for all opportunities
Creative Pathways
• Manage the Creative Pathways calendar, assuring successful College Pathways events
Teaching
• Teach one Advanced Studies class at least during the first year of employment
Program Management & Administration
• Supervise Programs Operations Coordinator, Faculty, and seasonal staffing
• Assure the effective management of all program office procedures
• Assure the creation of strong process documentation for the Archive
• Share key process data at least quarterly and formally evaluate the impacts of all programs
