The Department of Art at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, College of College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a Lecturer position in Photography and Media Art beginning August 1, 2022.

The ideal candidate's research and pedagogy will demonstrate material, formal and theoretical engagement with photography and media art, informed by a broad knowledge of the history of the discipline, and its contemporary practice. Engagement with critical issues related to the field is assumed, as is a conception of photography and media art that allows for interdisciplinary approaches across a range of media. Thorough knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Adobe Premiere is required. The candidate will also have expertise in analogue and digital image capture techniques, along with both darkroom- and digital-printing methods. Teaching assignments will include beginning and advanced photography and media art courses, with the possibility of instruction in other areas including Foundations. The candidate will also assist in the oversight of studio facilities and/or additional service responsibilities as appropriate.

The lecturer within the UTC Department of Art is a professional development position akin to that of a visiting artist. It is intended to enhance prospects for a career in higher education and the further development of one's research and creative practice. The Department provides the lecturer with the opportunity to meaningfully engage in academic culture, including opportunities to develop special topics courses, to serve the Department, and to exhibit creative research. The position is a non-tenure-track, annually renewable term in a NASAD accredited program. 3/3 teaching load. MFA or equivalent and teaching experience at or beyond the Graduate Assistant level is required. Salary includes a full benefits package.

Qualifications
Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:
• MFA in Photography, Media Art, or closely related field
• Teaching experience at the graduate teaching assistant (instructor of record) or beyond
• Demonstrated record of creative achievement, teaching effectiveness, and ability to collaborate as a member of a team
• Proven experience in analogue and digital photography, video editing, interdisciplinary studio practice, and the history and theory of photography
• Openness to teaching in other Art areas if needed, including Foundations
• Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC's Strategic Plan

About the Department of Art
The Department of Art at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) has 16 full-time faculty and approximately 300 majors pursuing BA degrees in Art History, Studio Art, and Art Education, as well as BFA degrees in Art with concentrations in Graphic Design, Painting and Drawing, Photography and Media Art, and Sculpture. UTC is an accredited member institution of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

The Department of Art is housed in the newly renovated Fine Arts Center (2020) and in the recently renovated Bretske Hall (2014). These facilities house Mac computer labs, junior and senior studio spaces, a darkroom, a lighting studio, a wood and metal shop, seminar and lecture rooms for Art History, and studio classrooms for Graphic Design, Painting and Drawing, Sculpture, Photography and Media Arts, and Foundations.

The Fine Arts Center also houses the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) at UTC, the first ICA in the state of Tennessee, inaugurated in Spring 2021. The ICA at UTC operates in conjunction with and in support of the Department of Art. The ICA is led by a full-time curator and director who coordinates an ambitious contemporary program of exhibitions and events. The department also programs The Apothecary, an experimental student-run gallery located within walking distance of the department's primary facilities.
