The South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University seeks a full-time faculty member to teach Photography in the Department of Art and Design beginning in August of 2021.
The Department of Art + Design at Anderson University is NASAD accredited with approximately 165 majors, with approximately 90 in design. In addition to a robust BFA in Graphic Design, we offer a vigorous BA experience in 3 concentrations: Art Education, Ceramics, and Painting + Drawing, as well as Minors in Art and Art History. We are seeking a collaborative colleague committed to teaching excellence to oversee and build a newly proposed concentration in Photography, which has been identified as an area of growth in our department.
Nine-month contract responsibilities include teaching 12 hours per semester (equivalent to a 3-3 load), overseeing and maintaining the analog and digital labs for the photography program, academic advising, and institutional service. The compensation package for this position includes health and retirement benefits.
The successful candidate will be able to teach all levels of photography including black and white darkroom skills, analog and digital color photography, large-format view camera techniques, history of photography, portraiture, studio lighting, documentary, and alternative non-silver processes.
MFA in Photography or other terminal degree in relevant field required. Prior experience in university-level teaching and an exhibition record that reflects commitment to and continued involvement with the photographic medium, as well as the potential to develop and grow the Photography area, strongly desired.
Anderson University recognizes three paths for status in faculty employment: Annual Appointment, Professional Path, and Tenure-Track. Annual Appointed faculty are hired as Instructors focused on teaching and learning. Faculty hired in the Professional Path focus on teaching, learning and service. After six years of exemplary performance, they may promote through faculty ranks and may become eligible for multi-year contracts. Tenure-Track faculty focus on teaching and learning, scholarship, and service as well. After six years of exemplary performance, Tenure-Track faculty earn tenure and may promote through faculty ranks. All three paths are evaluated for mission fit.
