The Department of Studio Art at the College of Charleston invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position of Photography starting in August of 2021. The successful candidate must have an MFA or equivalent in Photography with expertise in, and ability to teach, all levels of darkroom, digital and experimental photography to undergraduate Studio Art majors and non-majors. A secondary interest in, and ability to teach, alternative time-based media, such as video, is a benefit. The position involves a 3/3 teaching load and includes mentorship of independent study projects, student advising and supervision of internships in photography. Candidates are expected to demonstrate and sustain a record of professional achievement with an active exhibition record. Preference will be given to applicants with three years of college teaching experience beyond a graduate assistantship.
The Photography area is one of five areas of study in the Studio Art Department—along with Drawing, Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture. Located in the Cato Center for the Arts, which opened in 2010, it features a state-of the-art darkroom, light studio and digital media lab. These facilities are managed by the faculty member hired for this position. A faculty darkroom and studio are provided.
