Society for Photographic Education Appoints Toni Roberts as Executive Director

Roberts brings extensive experience in arts leadership and education to the nation's leading organization for photographic educators.

The Society for Photographic Education (SPE) has appointed Toni Roberts as its new Executive Director. Roberts, an accomplished arts leader and educator, will oversee the organization's strategic vision, programming, and partnerships. Her appointment marks a new chapter for SPE as it continues to advance photographic education and support a diverse, inclusive community of image-based practitioners.

 

CLEVELAND, OH — [October 7, 2025] — The Society for Photographic Education (SPE) today announced the appointment of Toni Roberts as its new Executive Director. Roberts will lead the organization in its mission to advance photographic education, foster creative and critical dialogue, and strengthen community among image-based practitioners nationwide.

Roberts brings a distinguished record of arts administration and educational leadership to her new role. Her career has been defined by a commitment to access, equity, and innovation in the arts, with a focus on creating collaborative and inclusive spaces that support artists, educators, and students alike.

"We are proud to welcome Toni Roberts as the new Executive Director of SPE," said Arthur Fields, Chair of the SPE Board of Directors. "Toni's collaborative spirit, strategic insight, and unwavering dedication to our organization make her the ideal leader for this next chapter. As Executive Director, Roberts will oversee the strategic direction and operations of SPE, working closely with the Board of Directors and staff to expand programming, enhance partnerships, and advance the organization's national and regional initiatives. She will also play a central role in shaping SPE's long-term vision for supporting educators and artists in an ever-changing visual landscape.
