Today's blog post highlights websites that I check out on a regular basis. The Society of American Archivists' (SAA) Visual Materials Section publishes Views, a newsletter that may interest artists and art historians. Highlighting collections or announcing digitization and preservation projects are just two examples of the types of topics featured in this digital publication. Photography teachers might find collections for classroom projects and photo historians may find online collections for curricular use or research. Skim past issues to locate digitized or analog photographic and film collections. The Science, Technology and Healthcare (STHC) Section of SAA also publishes a newsletter, Archival Elements, which is another source to identify collections that contain visual materials that may be digitized and accessible. The Archivists and Archives of Color Section's newsletter, News, features BIPOC archivists and archival collections from underrepresented individuals and communities. Institutional project updates and fellowship announcements may interest art historians and photographers.
The Internet Scout is bookmarked by many a librarian and provides reviews of "free web-based" sites. Born in the early days of the World Wide Web, the site points to new and useful sources for educational use. A quick search of "photography" yielded the University of Bristol's, the 'Historical Photographs of China' project. Check out the featured collections.
