Nancy Floyd Awarded 2014 SPE Future Focus Project Support Grant

SPE is pleased to announce Nancy Floyd as the newest recipient of the SPE Future Focus Project Support Grant.

Floyd is a professor of photography at Georgia State University, curator, photographer, and intermedia artist whose work incorporates video, digital technology, performance, and installation art. Her exhibition record includes shows in the United States, Japan, and Europe, with numerous solo exhibitions and over 80 group exhibitions.

The $5,000 grant recognizes Floyd's exceptional photographic work and directly supports the creative and professional development of her project, Weathering Time. The results of the funded project will be presented at the 2016 national conference. Funding for this grant is made possible in part by SPE's Future Focus Campaign, representing donations and support from members and friends.

Weathering Time depicts over three decades of self-portraiture and represents a significant achievement in the field of photography. In Floyd's application, she shares that "while this work is a visual diary, personal archive, and photographic record of my body, issues of aging, the roll of family photographs, memory, loss and death are addressed." This thirty-three year photographic investigation -- resulting in over 2,500 images -- is both rare and conceptually innovative, with the unique capacity to connect with a large audience. This grant will help cover printing costs for the first installation of Weathering Time at The Pearl Conard Art Gallery at Ohio State University in 2015, allowing Floyd to realize this project in its final form. Many thanks to the jurors from SPE's Awards and Recognitions Committee: Amy Holmes George (Chair), Claude Baillargeon, Bill Gaskins, and Rebecca Nolan, and congratulations to Nancy Floyd!
