Betty Press will talk about her recently published book I Am Because We Are: African Wisdom in Image and Proverb at the Library of Congress, September 8. It was published in partnership with Books For Africa and features 125 duotone images paired with African proverbs that seek to celebrate African wisdom and culture.
In the Afterword, written by Alison Nordstrom, Curator of Photographs, George Eastman House the work is described as "timelessÂ…immediate... and personally authentic."
Events
Noon, September 8 Book talk and signing at the Library of Congress, Washington, DC
Exhibition opening and book signing September 10th at the International Visions Gallery in Washington, DC. Exhibition continues through Sepember 30.
Other events will be held in Hattiesburg where she teaches photography at the University of Southern Mississippi as well as in Atlanta; Deland, Florida; and New Orleans.
