From January 29 through April 3, 2010, Gallery 339 is pleased to present Drawn from Nature, an exhibition of photographs by Stuart Rome. In Drawn from Nature, Rome specifically focuses on fossil records of plants and animals as well as contemporary animal tracks, thus adding an element of temporal ambiguity to his already-complex scenes. The new images are also distinct in the unusual printing process that Rome has developed to present them. Beginning with few precedents for this type of digital printing, Rome painstakingly created a method for printing on metallic-leaf which has been hand-applied to print-making paper. This process yields a shimmering, yet worn surface, which emphasizes the depth and dimension of the images as well as their understated seductiveness.
