In a Palestinian folk tale, the Devil claims what grows above, so the farmer plants radishes. He then claims what is below, so the farmer plants lentils. The occupation seizes the visible. The farmer plants where the Devil is not looking. This lecture takes the tale as its concept: counter-archive as documentary practice, when the image is doubted and messengers are not safe. I present notebooks from Wadi al-Seeq, seeds from a bulldozed seedbank, and lullabies for children conceived from sperm smuggled from Israeli prisons: what to carry, what to return, what to bind, what to keep waiting.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
