Last summer I was an Artist in Residence at Denali National Park. I spent ten days making images on glass plates, driving the park road in my 1991 Volkswagen camper/darkroom. Since wet plate, or Collodion, photography played a large role in establishing the National Parks in the United States (William Henry Jackson's photographs of Yellowstone, 1871), it was interesting to be the first photographer that I know of to photograph with this process in Denali.
My presentation of the work will include a visual history of my own life in photography, and how and why I was led to wet plate as a wonderful form of expression for my work.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
