The Magic of Lightpainting [read details]

Workshop: Artem Zhdanov

Friday, September 13 - 9:00PM to 11:55PM
ELIF 305

In the world of digital photography, most special effects are added to the photographs during postproduction. Light painting provides you with a unique way to add amazing special effects to your photos right in front of the camera. No prior knowledge of photo processing is required.

It is very tricky to photograph a person in the dark or in twilight without using flash or some other sort of added light. Long exposure photography is traditionally meant for landscapes, not portraits. However, the light painting technique that I am using allows photographers to light the subject by hand and create a magical light effect around them while also capturing the background.

I am combining traditional portrait photography with long exposure and light-painting techniques.

During part 1, I will cover the basics of long exposure photography and will show participants how to build a light painting tube. I will demonstrate the technique and explain how it works. There will be a professional model working with us.

Part 2 will be the demo shoot, which will be held outdoors weather permitting.
