Group f/4 (Four Fairbanks Female Fotographers) loosely follows a photographic tradition started in 1932, with the first museum exhibition of Group f/64, a small group of like-minded California photographers. In their manifesto, the group stated, "The chief object of the Group is to present in frequent shows what it considers the best contemporary photography" while "not pretending to cover the entire spectrum of photography." We, too, embrace this concept and will be presenting our first exhibition together in May of 2020 at the Fairbanks Arts Association's Bear Gallery.
While each of us comes to our photography with a unique vision, aesthetic, and approach, together we share a deep respect for the medium, as evidenced in our work. Although the subject matter we have chosen to work with is different for each of us, the similarities are there as well: We strive to clearly define and share a deeply personal realm for our viewing public through our efforts and activities with photography.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
