Sailing through the Anthropocene

Bill Fox, Mark Klett, Meghann Rieppenhoff

Saturday, March 08 - 1:30PM to 2:30PM
Tuscany D

In 2023 Mark Klett, Bill Fox, and Meghann Riepenhoff visited the Republic of the Marshall Islands as part of the Kõmij Mour Ijin / Our Life Is Here expedition. The journey included two dozen Marshallese and international artists and researchers, whose mission was to explore the contemporary resilience of the nation's culture, the dark and continuing legacy of the American atmospheric nuclear testing program that brutally violated the islands amidst the Cold War, and the profound national vulnerability of the Atolls to sea level rise caused by the global climate crisis.

Klett and Fox will discuss their collaboration on a forthcoming book of photographs and writing based on their journey; and Riepenhoff will present her dramatic cameraless cyanotypes, created in collaboration with the landscape and the ocean. Fox will also present an overview of Reno's Center for Art + Environment and its archives.
