The US is a rapidly changing and divided place. Talking openly and honestly about the photographs of the past (and present) is challenging for many photographic educators and photographers alike. This presentation is built around the idea that "we cannot change what we do not acknowledge," and covers strategies to help photographic educators and photo makers navigate difficult to see or discuss photographs, while acknowledging the emotional capacity of your viewers and students. The strategies in this talk empower all photographers to lead conversations boldly and more effectively in the classroom and beyond.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
