In this talk we will discuss ungrading and the potential benefits and pitfalls in our contemporary higher education ecosystem within art and design. Ungrading is generally defined as teaching processes focused more on learning through qualitative feedback, self-assessment, and reflection emphasizing dialogue, process, and a growth mindset. Though we are at the beginning of our ungrading journey, together we have explored a number of contemporary education strategies that have lead us to some solutions and many questions. One thing that is clear: traditional grades are broken, especially in the arts.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
