My practice explores the intersections of memory, trauma, and history by abandoning traditional photography, focusing instead on visualizing the invisible and compressing time.
This talk will present my recent exhibition, "Staring at the Face of the Sun" at the Georgia Museum of Art, featuring large-scale photo installations that highlight often-forgotten or overlooked histories. As a third-generation Hibakusha, my work connects Japanese irradiated trauma with American Downwinders, challenging narratives that limit nuclear victims to one nationality or moment. Through these stories, I examine how contemplation and empathy can heal trauma and reshape our understanding of the present by acknowledging buried histories.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
