From birth, we are bundled in fabric, offering protection and comfort in the spaces we inhabit. The patterns in my work are drawn from blankets that wrapped me as a child, passed across generations, across borders, and across apartments. Using backdrop stands and strobes, I photograph these textiles to conjure the spirits of my Guatemalan matriarchs. My talk, Photographs as Thread, explores how my work blends performance, collage, and photography to examine assimilation practices, family structures, and memory - weaving personal history into a broader reflection on identity.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
