The grotto is the antechamber to the underworld. It acts as an ancient and mythical space that demolishes the thin connective tissue dividing this world from the supernatural world. Through building narratives of magical bodies and liminal environments, the images in this series produce an uneasy atmosphere, representing the moments of emergent belief that occur when one finds themselves deep underground. The work is realized through plaster body casts, silver nitrate "skin," and large silver gelatin prints made with expired photosensitive paper - paper scarred by light over the course of its lifetime, now emulating the dim conditions of the underworld.
