Contemporary higher education is facing a broad array of threats, including legislative and academic gag orders, diminishment of tenure and academic freedom, dwindling endowments and state funding, a deficit of faculty positions, attacks on affirmative action and DEI initiatives; anti-intellectualism; and the delegitimization of higher education. Acknowledging these concerns is the first step toward agency and a meaningful discourse addressing self-preservation and sustainability.
