Does a textbook have relevancy in the 21st century?
In 2023, I wrote a photography textbook in response to a series of cascading problems I encountered over the last decade of teaching. The self-published textbook, "A Basic Guide to Photography," is available for free to anyone needing a resource for their photography classes. It provides a technical overview of the universal characteristics of digital and analog photographic practices. This talk examines the history of the photographic textbook, ways to design and disseminate "good" information, and the considerations we must make as educators to provide equitable, accessible tools for learning.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
