Student Volunteer Training 2

Create valuable relationships within the photographic community while decreasing the cost of the SPE national conference experience!

SPE is looking for committed student members to participate as volunteers at the national conference. With behind the scenes access, volunteering provides students the opportunity to spark conversations with presenters, portfolio reviewers and colleagues from throughout the country and expand their network of contacts in the world of photography. Volunteers have the opportunity to attend a special access crash course in professional development and artist marketing led Mary Virginia Swanson and Susan kae Grant.

Volunteering at the SPE national conference can be the introduction to a wealth of professional opportunities. Relationships established as student volunteers have led to exhibition opportunities, artist residencies, job placements, graduate school selections, publication opportunities, mentorships and in addition, have been the catalyst for lifelong friendships.

Volunteers assist in pre-conference and conference activities including, lectures, silent auction, raffle, portfolio reviews, offsite tours, registration, the exhibits fair, and much more. Each volunteer is required to work (6) six hours (spread over the conference) and attend the (2) two-hour mandatory training session on Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

Volunteers that successfully fulfill their required hours and attend the training session will receive a full conference registration rebate on their student registration ticket price. Rebates are issued six to eight weeks after the conference.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Duties may vary depending on conference needs and volunteers will receive detailed instructions for assignments during Volunteer Training.

Pre-Conference – unpack boxes, name badge assembly, organize attendee bag materials.

Registration – Check in pre-conference registrations, register onsite attendees, generate name badges, assist with registration/conference questions, support SPE store.

Presentations - Help speakers with audio visual/lighting needs, check attendee name badges, fill out conference session slips.

Exhibits Fair, Silent Auction/Print Raffle – Exhibitor assistance, oversee silent auction and raffle tables, inform attendees of silent auction and raffle guidelines, assist exhibits fair coordinator.

Portfolio Sessions and Critiques – Help participants get to their assigned table, help with participant check-in, assist portfolio coordinators as needed.

Runner – Runners are given specific discrete tasks, as they arise, to complete on the spur of the moment, delivering messages, troubleshooting situations, standing in as needed.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING SESSIONS

All student volunteers must attend one of the following training sessions held at the Palmer House Hilton.

- Wednesday March 6, 2013 4 – 6 pm
- Wednesday March 6, 2013 9 – 11 pm
