Louis Chavez awarded photography fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) and the Joy of Giving Something Foundation (JGS)

Louis Chavez, a visual artist and current SPE Board Member, has been named a 2025 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow in Photography from The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). This fellowship award in photography is offered once every three years, with the current cycle acknowledging the work of 24 fellows and three finalists. Chavez has also received a 2025 Joy of Giving Something (JGS) Fellowship for Photography, a separate award that is administered by NYFA and given annually to five photographers in New York State who live and work outside of New York City. Chavez's creative work contends with queer social histories through archival research and experimental photographic practices.
