FotoFika 2020 All Stars Kickstarter!

The FotoFika 2020 All Stars Project was inspired by Mike Mandel's classic 1975 Baseball-Photographer Trading Cards. The series includes 500 cards featuring the work of 380 graduating photography students from the class of 2020. With the help of Becky Senf (Center for Creative Photography) FotoFika invited professionals in the field to select and review student images for the 134 "2020 All Stars Cards" (the number of "players" in Mandel's original card set.) Curators, writers, critics, photographers and alumni of the original cards participated as reviewers. Reviewers had the option to have their own black and white portrait card produced and over 100 opted in including Mike Mandel himself.

FotoFika is a photography teaching resource/collective, created in 2020 as a response to teaching challenges caused Covid 19. The founding members are John Freyer (Virginia Commonwealth University), Anne Massoni (International Center of Photography), and Betsy Schneider (Arizona State University and Emerson College). FotoFika has partnered with Society for Photographic Education to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise $20,000 to print 1000 decks of cards, celebrating the work of photography students from the Class of 2020. The Kickstarter Campaign has raised 25% of its goal to date and will fund sending a deck to every student who participated in the project - The campaign closes on April 24.
