Mary Giancoli's Cuetzalan Photo Project in San Francisco
Cuetzalan is a series of color photographs from the magical place of Cuetzalan, Mexico at Mama Art Gallery/Cafe, www.mamasf.com in San Francisco from Sept 8-Oct 13 for a cultural exchange and reception for the community on September 13 from 7-10 pm. The experience of visiting women artisans in their homes, and photographing the 'Feria de Huipil 'festival that celebrates ancient customs was transformative and a testament to work in rural communities, family and the power of micro-business. San Francisco as a hub of migration back and forth from Latin America and Asia is an ideal location to share the work. Visit http://www.usaprojects.org/project/cuetzalan to see a DIY video and photos from the series.
