SPE members: Martina Shenal, Sarah Cusimano Miles, Adam Thorman, Christa Kreeger Bowden, Amy Theiss Giese, Katie Zychowski, Kris Sanford, Tomiko Jones, Bridgette Broughman along with non-members Ryan Hendon and Maki Kaoru are included in the exhibition "Languor / Temperance | Repose" curated by SPE member Anne Leighton Massoni at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ
The exhibition runs from September 6 - October 14, 2011 with opening reception and artist talk by Tomiko Jones on September 22 beginning at 4:30pm.
The photographic work in this group exhibition speaks to the title. There is a languorous quality to these images - a listlessness, or what initially seems a sense of inertia. And yet, the artists employ aesthetic restraint in the creation of their works, ultimately overlaying them with a sense of tranquility or quiet composure. The artists in this exhibition cover a great deal of photographic ground including the traditions of the still life, landscape, abstraction, and the constructed or fabricated image using analog and digital practices in color and black and white.
