Meet the presenters of SPE’s 2027 Annual Conference!
We’re excited to introduce Margaret LeJeune, presenting “Entangled Landscapes: Ghost Forests and Environmental Legacies”
“Thirteen Hours to Fall examines the climate crisis through the recent transformations of lush coastal forests into ghost forests. These landscapes, expanses of dead and dying trees shaped by saltwater intrusion, emerge not as distant catastrophes, but as everyday environments marked by slow, visible change. What appears as stillness or absence becomes a visible record of ecological change, environmental time, and human intervention.”
About the Presenter
Margaret LeJeune’s creative practice explores the relationship between art, science, and environmental studies. As a lens-based creator, she produces works that probe shifting landscapes, symbiotic relationships, and the nature of the photographic medium. In 2023, she was named the Woman Science Photographer of the Year by the Royal Photographic Society. LeJeune currently serves as the Director of GroundTruth Institute, an arts organization that amplifies photographic engagement with ecology, environmental issues, and place-based research.
Join us at the 2027 SPE Annual Conference to hear Margaret explore ghost forests as sites of ecological and social history, and how photography can examine the intertwined legacies of climate change, human intervention, and environmental transformation.
