I enjoy taking a series approach to fully explore photographic projects. This body of work, in progress since 2009, plays with my training as a painter by responding to found compositions of mostly exterior walls in various states of decay or decoration. The compositions often include recognizable fragments such as doors, windowsills and panes, pipes, shutters and bits of plants. I respond to very textured surfaces and the play of colorful horizontal and vertical elements. I’ve had particular success shooting in areas where the elements seem to take more of a toll on the architectural surfaces. I hope to develop the project further by creating a photographic mosaic and possibly translating some of the images to painting on wood or canvas.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
