about
Tryst Red is an installation and lens-based artist and educator, combining video projection, photography, and film. As a child living nomadically, Tryst grew to emphasize place and memory as visceral themes within her practice.
She explores the relationship between episodic memory, longing, and place. Through a combination of digital media and traditional techniques, she questions the reliability of perception—how we recall, distort, or romanticize the past in contrast to the reality we inhabit. Tryst is interested in the tension between what we want to remember and what actually occurred, and how memory mediates our understanding of self and our environments.
Tryst Red received her MFA (photography) in May 2023 from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has exhibited her immersive installations, "Reflection Rooms," and other photographic works in numerous group shows, including the Detroit Artist Market, Muskegon Museum of Art, Manifest Gallery, and Scarab Club. Tryst is an executive board member of the NOVA24 Photo + Film Festival and an adjunct professor at the College for Creative Studies, Lawrence Tech, and Oakland University. .
