My work is about memory. Specifically experiences that embed in the body, unable to be spoken, non-linear and elusive. I work in forms of singular images and digital collage, relying on my own body as the site of inquiry. In each composition, I employ the symbolic language of feathers, open sky, and domestic spaces to indicate the desire to break free from emotional and psychological bondage. Clouds, contrails, and water represent that which cannot be understood or grasped. Medical records from my adolescence refer to what is true and known. The work is undoubtedly personal, but it is not only about me. 'Every Woman and Nobody' is about the common, unspoken, and often forgotten experiences of sexual and emotional trauma. Part memoir and part metaphor, it is about me, about nobody, and about every woman simultaneously.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
