Better than Most
With this series Better than Most, I seek out specific cultural phenomena where systems of aesthetics and value operate to a higher degree within a given community. I focus on local and regional competitions showcasing a range of themes from various products of agriculture to domesticated animals, where complex hierarchical networks of judgment are strictly obeyed. Such subjects offer me the opportunity for a unique cultural study into notions of winning, standardization, and the intriguing nuances of visually assigning value.
